No Hearts of Oak match is complete without the roar of the Rainbow supporters. Since 1911 the Phobian fans have created some of the loudest, most passionate and longest-lasting chants in African football. These songs are passed from father to son, from the streets of Accra to the away terraces in Kumasi. They never change and they never die.
Here are the ten most iconic Hearts of Oak chants and songs that every true Phobian knows by heart.
- Osee Yee! The simplest and loudest chant in Ghanaian football. After every goal the entire stadium screams “Osee Yee!” and the reply comes back “Yee!”. It started in the 1970s and is still the heartbeat of every celebration.
- Arise Phobians Arise The official club anthem played before kick-off. Written in the 1950s, it calls every supporter to stand and fight for the Rainbow colours. You can hear it from kilometres away when the team bus arrives.
- Rainbow Rainbow A melodic song sung while waving the multicoloured flags: “Rainbow, Rainbow, Hearts of Oak Rainbow… We are the Phobians from Accra city!” It is the pride song that reminds everyone who the most colourful club in Africa is.
- We Shall Conquer Sung during difficult moments when Hearts are losing: “We shall conquer, we shall conquer, never say die… Phobians never say die!” It has turned many matches around in the final minutes.
- Hearts Never Die The eternal truth of every supporter: “Hearts never die, Hearts never die… Even if we lose today, tomorrow we shall rise again!”
- Kotoko deɛ, ɛyɛ bitter! The famous rivalry chant against Asante Kotoko. Translation: “Kotoko, it is bitter!” – sung with a huge smile when Hearts win the big derby.
- Phobian Blood A newer classic from the 2000s continental era: “Phobian blood in my veins, Rainbow colours in my heart… I will follow Hearts till I die!”
- Accra Hearts of Oak – Number One Simple and direct: “Accra Hearts of Oak – Number One! Who is Number Two? Nobody!”
- From Jamestown to Osu Celebrating the roots of the club: “From Jamestown to Osu, from Osu to Nima… Phobians everywhere!”
- Thank You Players Sung after every victory to show love to the team: “Thank you players, thank you players… You have made us happy today!”
These songs and chants are more than just noise – they are the soul of Accra Hearts of Oak. They have been sung in CAF Champions League finals, in Ghana Premier League derbies and in the smallest community fields. They unite generations of Phobians and will echo forever.
Osee Yee! The Rainbow never walks alone.
